LIMPOPO – A 30-year-old man who is a parolee was badly assaulted by angry villagers who alleged that he attempted to stab a resident of Makatu village near Thohoyandou last Sunday.
Residents chased him and found him trying to hide in the yard of Thohoyandou police spokesperson, Maj Mashudu Malelo.
The fuming mob overpowered Maleo who tried to help the parolee. They dragged the accused away and assaulted him with sticks and stones. The unconscious parolee was taken to the Siloam Hospital for treatment.
Siloam police spokesperson, WO Edward Tharaga, confirmed the injured man is still a patient at the Siloam Hospital but is still unable to speak.
“We have opened an attempted murder case against the residents but no arrests have been made as yet,” he said.
Thohoyandou Correctional Services unit manager, Thilindeli Mukhesa, said they will check if a case in connection with the alleged attempted stabbing has been opened against the parolee.
“If a case has been opened, we will take him back to prison for violating one of his parole conditions,” he said.
