2 to appear before court for human trafficking

Two suspects aged 27 and 52 years old will appear before the Sekgosese Magistrate’s Court in Morebang today after they were arrested for human trafficking on Friday night.

POLOKWANE – Two suspects aged 27 and 52 years old will appear before the Sekgosese Magistrate’s Court in Morebang today after they were arrested for human trafficking on Friday night.

It is alleged that the two men who are taxi drivers attempted to smuggle 24 children and 10 adults from Zimbabwe into South Africa.

National spokesperson for the Hawks, Brig Hangwani Mulaudzi, said: “The two taxis were intercepted in an intelligence driven operation after information was received that children between the ages five and 16 years old and 10 adults would be transported illegally from Zimbabwe to Gauteng. The children are accommodated at a place of safety in Polokwane and are being evaluated by social workers. The children will appear before the Children’s Court for a decision. We suspect that the children were on their way to their parents, who we suspect live in Johannesburg.”

According to Malaudzi processes were done to determine the status of the 10 adults in the country.

“The processes are completed and we can confirm that the adults have valid passports,” Malaudzi said.
