LIMPOPO -The Democratic Alliance (DA) announced in a media statement on Wednesday they want a thorough investigation into the recent death of a suspect while in police custody.
The DA media statement reads as follows; “Samuel Sikhwana (33) suspected of stealing a police officers service pistol died after being detained and allegedly assaulted by police members at the Masisi police station north of Thohoyandou last weekend.”
“The family claim to have heard his screams during visting hours and now accuse the police of killing him,” says DA (MPL) Katlego Suzan Phala in the statement.
“In a South Africa led by the DA, we will dismiss any police officer found guilty of a criminal offence and let the criminal justice system run its course.”
“The DA will submit written questions to the MEC for safety, Mapula Phukwane, to establish the prevalence of police brutality in the province, and measures in place to prevent police turning on the public.
