Rotary Anne and community reach out after family lose everything in fire

Barely a week after their house burned down, Juanita Haken experienced the love and care of the community in more than one way.

POLOKWANE – Barely a week after their house burned down, Juanita Haken experienced the love and care of the community in more than one way.

From everywhere people made donations to help the family after a fire gutted their home.

“I have a fully equipped kitchen. Some of the items I received are in better condition than the ones I had before. I also have bedding, towels, and curtains, basically everything for the house. All we need are clothes,” she says. Last Tuesday, the Rotary Anns of Pietersburg 100 donated a refrigerator to the family. “We all pitched in to help this family, gathering clothes, groceries, toiletries, cleaning materials, curtains, furniture, and a R5 000 Makro voucher. We took them to Makro to purchase a refrigerator and other necessities,” says Shane Hunter from the Rotary Anns.

Rotary Ann president, Megan Ross, says the Rotary Anns of Pietersburg 100 Rotary Club opened their hearts and generously contributed to help this family. “These Anns work relentlessly to help the community every year with a spirit of goodwill and unselfish devotion,” Ross said with pride.

“I am overjoyed with our new fridge. I really appreciate everything the community has done for us. We even received a gammon that I will save for Christmas lunch,” Haken said with a smile.

Haken would like to make furniture from pallets as a source of income, but she needs a planing machine for this to become a reality.

She also plans to make toys to sell as a source of income along with the furniture.
