LIMPOPO – A security vehicle came under attack during a cash-in-transit heist on the road between Mokopane and Roedtan this morning.

Up to 10 suspects travelling in an SUV and bakkie opened fire on the security vehicle until it came to a standstill.

Provincial police spokesperson, Col Ronel Otto, said attempts were made to blast the safe in the vehicle, but they were unsuccessful.

“The suspects fled with a few bags containing only coins. The amount is unknown. The two guards sustained slight injuries during the incident,” she said.

Otto said the two vehicles were later found abandoned 6km from the scene.

No arrests have been made yet and the investigation is ongoing.
