Join Jimmy in his effort to raise awareness

POLOKWANE – “Being disabled is not the end of life. If God says it is not over, it is not over,” says Jimmy.

Jimmy Letsoalo is a quadriplegic. His mission is to help others and motivate them.

Letsoalo shares his story

“After school I worked at different places and once I had to hike from Haenertsburg to Polokwane. The car I managed to get a lift in was in a terrible accident with a truck that was loaded with tree logs.

“The car rolled about three times and I was flung out. I woke up in a hospital in Pretoria and my people did not know where I was.

“It was only after about a month that a social worker helped me get hold of my dad who then had to travel to Pretoria”.

He was later transferred to Mankweng Hospital. In 1997 he was discharged but had to do go back monthly for check-ups. In 2000 his dad passed away and he was relocated to Centenary House.

Fun run or walk to raise awareness

“Once a year, around Christmas time, I visit my family in Haenertsburg, but travelling there is not always easy. Last year I decided to start a fun run or walk to raise awareness.

The walk will take place again this year from Clearwater Cove to Ebenezer Dam on the R71 between Polokwane and Magoebaskloof.

He says he would love to get the Lethaba Athletics Club as well as the Polokwane Athletic Club involved in this campaign.

He also needs sponsors for water and a tractor to get the road to the dam ready as it is not a fully tarred road. Everyone will wear visible clothing and the day will involve several motivational speeches.

Letsoalo has also written a cookbook about African dishes and he also loves painting.

He plans on doing a poetry book too, but needs publishers.

Any person willing to get involved can contact Letsoalo at 072 892 8893 or his brother, Amos at 072 222 4501.
