Sport, Arts and Culture MEC Nandi Ndalane has congratulated Mmatema Moremi, South African Idols contestant who was named one of the top four on Sunday, on her success thus far in the competition.
Moremi, hails from Moletlane Village in Zebediela and is a qualified linguist who speaks four languages. She is the first Limpopo contestant to make it this far in the contest. She was part of the group of contestants that wowed the judges with their performance of TLC’s ‘Creep’ and with her solo performance of Demi Lovato’s ‘Scyscraper’ she proved that that was no fluke.
Spokesperson for Ndalane, Malesela Ramaoka said the MEC was elated with the strides Moremi has made. “She is a performer of note and we believe that she will bring the title home,” Ramaoka said.
He also mentioned that at the department they are running a competition to support her. Every staff member who votes for her 100 times receives a T-shirt bearing her face.
“We started the competition last month aimed at encouraging colleagues to rally behind her. The MEC and her team went to visit her mother last month to offer support and her mother at the time made a request to the department to assist her to campaign for votes and data bundles,‘’ Ramaoka said.
Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee for Sport, Arts and Culture, Onnica Moloi was in audience on Sunday evening at the State Theatre in Pretoria. Moloi said they were happy to have a woman from the province in the top four of the competition. “Limpopo is known for not doing well in the competition. We are happy to have someone like her who is talented, educated and humble and we wish her the best of luck.”
