Water crisis but Karee Base streets/houses are flooded

As the reservoirs that supply water to the city remain at critical levels, residents at the Karee Base Polokwane claim management has neglected to repair a waterpipe more than a week after it burst.

POLOKWANE – As the reservoirs that supply water to the city remain at critical levels, residents at the Karee Base Polokwane claim management has neglected to repair a waterpipe more than a week after it burst.

This resulted in litres of water been wasted as the streets look like they are rivers, stated the concerned residents.

Some houses are also flooded and other residents are without water due to the problem.

A resident, whose identity is withheld due to the fact that he is not allowed to speak to the media, confirmed the management of the Karee Base is responsible for the repair of the broken waterpipe, and not the municipality.

“They have appointed someone to fix the broken pipe, but he does not have the right equipment to repair the burst pipe. Now water continues to be wasted and there is nothing we can do about it,” the resident said.

Matsidiso Mothapo, municipal spokesperson, said it is the municipality’s number one priority to save water as it is a very scarce resource.

“The management of Karee Base can request the municipality’s assistance to repair the burst pipe and we will bill them.”

After three days of trying to obtain comment, by the time of going to print, Review was unable to get hold of the manager of the base.
