Mini-chefs learn kitchen tricks

In support of the Nestle Professional Healthy Future partnership, the Limpopo Chefs Academy hosted 20 kids from Molwantwa Kgolo DIC (Drop-in centre) on 20 October.

MOKOPANE – Every year over 10 million chefs affiliated with 103 member associations through Worldchefs use Delicious Day to engage in charitable activities in their immediate communities.

The purpose of the day is to provide exposure to the chefs vocation and honour the profession.

Worldchefs chose a theme for the day to align activities and drive synergised awareness.

This year the theme was Healthy Kids. This is in support of the Nestle Professional Healthy Future partnership.

The Limpopo Chefs Academy hosted 20 kids from Molwantwa Kgolo DIC (Drop-in centre) on 20 October.

Chef Adrian Vigus-Brown, Chef Tommie Hurter and Chef Lizanne Lourens introduced themselves and each kid was given a paper chefs hat and plastic apron to feel part of the chef community.

The chefs taught the kids about the seven colours of healthy food in a fun and informal way, utilising a poster depicting the various colour groups.

They then created healthy meals along with the kids using the ingredients the kids have chosen.

This module also acted as a cooking class, while the chefs were talking about the different methods they are using along with information on various hygiene and kitchen safety procedures. The chefs asked the kids to help them with different parts of the cooking process.

In conclusion, Nestle Healthy Kids will impact the healthy eating habits of children with a message that is simple, effective and can be transported home.
