POLOKWANE – The college student, who did not wish to be identified, said she was walking from a local college when the incident occurred.
“I was walking along the street and it was very quiet. A man walking just ahead of me in the same direction I was going turned around and looked at me.”
“He demanded that I hand over my cellphone and when I refused he took out a knife and said he would kill me. I gave him my phone and told him I would scream. He said I could but there was no one to assist me.
“I screamed as the man walked closer to me and tried to push me to the ground. He wanted to rape me.
“A vehicle was coming down the street and the driver saw what was happening and stopped to assist me. My attacker ran away and hid,” the woman told Review.
The police with the help of the K9 unit searched for the attacker, to no avail.
Polokwane police spokesperson, Capt Ntobeng Phala urged students, especially women, to travel in groups to and from college.
“We also urge residents who notice suspicious people to report them to the police,” added Phala.
