“There are just too many potholes and they are increasing by the day. If nothing is done urgently, parts of the road may soon become ponds.”

LIMPOPO – Residents in the Tubatse municipal area continue to raise concerns about the poor state of the roads.

According to these residents the D737 road is dilapidated, abandoned. and in a deplorable condition.

Fanie Nel, a farmer in the area, confirmed that the road has deteriorated to such an extent that motorists now completely avoid using it and resort to using the R37 road.

Unfortunately this alternative is also a longer route.

“Look at the deep holes next to Olifantspoortjie, and they are deepening more and more. With the heavy rain the road may collapse before long.”

Another resident, Tshepo Matha, agreed that the D737 road needs urgent attention.

“There are just too many potholes and they are increasing by the day. If nothing is done urgently, parts of the road may soon become ponds,” he said.

People also complained about the contractor and the provincial government for revamping only a portion of the road from Steelpoort to the Olifantspoortjie Guest House.

“Only 10 km of the road were revamped, the rest still looks like a gravel road.

“This comes down to just another shady job – we plead with those responsible to fix it entirely,” they stated.

CV tried to establish whose responsibility these roads are as well as the reasons for the delays in fixing and upgrading them, in light of the dangers they pose

The spokesperson for the Greater Tubatse Municipality (GTM), Thabiso Mokoena, said the route does not fall under the jurisdiction of the GTM.

“We are not responsible for the contract – it is a national road.”

He referred CV to Road Agency Limpopo (RAL).

By the time of going to print, CV  had not received any response from RAL.
