MOKOPANE – The Ivanplats Community Relations Assistant (CRA) team decided to carry the spirit of Mandela Day through to every day of their lives and recently cleaned the playground of Chumana Primary School in Tshamahansi.

Though Ivanplats cannot commit to any financial donations or sponsorship at the moment, the team is still committed to making a difference in the lives of their host communities.

During a visit to Chumana Primary School earlier this year the team noticed that the junior phase playground was in need of a face-lift. They gathered gardening tools, old tyres and paint and on 9 October they rolled up their sleeves and made a positive difference.

The learners of Chumana returned from their school break to find a bright, welcoming and clean playground. Not only was the area cleaned but the equipment was painted in bright colours and old tyres were recycled into playground equipment.

After a long, hot dusty day one of the assistants said: “It is always good to donate things that were bought, but the satisfaction of giving your own time, muscle and effort is unmatched.”
