Tour around Town: Progress report

The Mokopane Business Chamber hosted a Tour around Town on 12 August accompanied by municipal departmental representatives to the problem areas as reported by the public.

MOKOPANE – The Mokopane Business Chamber hosted a Tour around Town on 12 August accompanied by municipal departmental representatives to the problem areas as reported by the public.

After the tour, Andy Goetsch from the Business Chamber invited the municipal manager to join him on the same tour privately.

The municipality is committed to attend to each problem and the following report show the progress up to date:

• Hawkers in Nelson Mandela Street: Hawkers’ stands were painted and ongoing law enforcement is conducted in order to regularise street hawkers.

• Taxi rank at Nelson Mandela/Pretorius Streets: The shortage of toilets have been noted.

• Sussex Street: Road repairs will be done.

• Bonsmara and Sussex Streets: The water leakage was resolved.

• Bonsmara and Simmentaler Streets: The water leakage was resolved.

• Soetdoring Flats in Van Heerden and De Klerk Streets: A job card was issued to a maintenance contractor to construct a new manhole.

• Curb not suitable for cars in Hooge Street near Magnolia flats: Noted.

• Damaged manhole in Van Riebeeck near L&L Bande: A job card was issued to a maintenance contractor to repair.

• Municipal rubbish bins not clean and neat near the Spar in Hooge Street: The bulk waste container was removed and will be placed in the correct spot.

• Heavy vehicles parked in Hooge Street: Shift supervisors instructed to ensure that the area is monitored daily for traffic violence.

• Old Stadion, Fourie Street: Poor condition and toilets used for prostitution noted.

• Tennis court next to Van Rensburg Hall in Rabe Street: Toilets leaking and clubhouse vandalised noted.

• Water leakage in Kerstell Street: Resolved.

• Open hole in Totius and Hooge Streets: Manhole installed.

• Potholes in Totius Street: Noted.

• Water leakage in Rabe and Danie Theron Streets: Resolved.

• Sidewalks overgrown on the corner of Pres Steyn and Charl Cilliers Streets: Noted.

• Open hole at the corner of Pretorius and HF Verwoerd Streets: A job card was issued to a maintance contractor to construct a new manhole.

• Rubbish dumped in Wilge 36C and Wilge 25 open erven: Workers will clean up the illegal dumping in the area. MTS will be asked to remove the offload soil at Wilge Street.

• Potholes in Koper Street, the old swimming pool in Hooge and Geyser Streets and road repairs left next to road in 1st Street: Receiving attention.
