Limpopo students join the thousands at Union Building

University of Limpopo (UL) students joined the student protestors at the Union Buildings in Pretoria on Friday morning.

NATIONAL – University of Limpopo (UL) students joined the student protestors at the Union Buildings in Pretoria on Friday morning.

According to post on twitter 20 buses filled to capacity with students from UL left early this morning en route to the Union Building for the #FEESMUSTFALL protest.

According to Citizen the students chanted “Zuma must fall” and “Blade must fall” on Friday morning. There was a heavy police presence at the Union Building as tens of thousands joined the protests as they waited for President Jacob Zuma to convey that there should be no increase in tuition fees in 2016. On Wednesday students from the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) Polokwane campus and UL campus also joined the nationwide protests over fee hikes.

Lectures and exams were disrupted as the protests continued. TUT Classes have been suspended until Monday.

On Thursday UL students closed the campus gates, denying people access.  No acts of violence were reported and no arrests were made.
