Muni: water supply to city may be affected

"Residents in these areas are advised to take necessary measures to make sure they have water during the downtime."

POLOKWANE – Residents are notified of the possible interruption of the water supply on Sunday 25 October 2015 due to maintenance work on the Ebenezer plant.

The maintenance at the plant will be conducted by Lepelle Northern Water and includes the replacement of  an outdated switch gear says a municipal spokesperson, Tidimalo Chuene on Wednesday afternoon.

“Please take note that the current switch gear is outdated and there are no longer spares. The planned maintenance is a proactive move in replacing the old outdated gear which could result in the plant being out of operation over a long period should the switch gear fail,” explains Chuene.

The shutoff of the plant will start at 06:00 and the pumps are expected to be back online after about 16 hours says Chuene.

“The shutdown has a potential to disrupt supply of water to certain areas along the Ebenezer pipeline that includes Mankweng and high catchment areas in the city.”

“Residents in these areas are advised to take necessary measures to make sure they have water during the downtime.”

“The Municipality and Lepelle Northern Water shall attempt to minimise of the negative effects on supply.”

However, we request the public to use water very sparingly during this period to ensure that reservoir levels do not drop significantly resulting in water shortage concludes Chuene.

Washing of cars using hoses, watering of lawns and gardens should strictly be avoided.

Residents who may experience challenges with water supply are advised to report to matter to the municipality on 0152902376/2001/2002.
