The origins of the firm can be traced back to the early 1960’s. During 2000 and 2006 respectively, the existing partners joined the practice, and this firm has built up a reputation over the years, as a stable and reliable firm, maintaining only the highest level of ethical conduct.
The partners are Pieter Johannes van Staden and Tumelo Chuene Magwai.
To increase its expertise, particularly in the field of Local Government Law, the firm was involved in this specialised legal field since 1982, where they assisted communities in the vicinity of Pietersburg with all aspects of Local Government Law, Town Planning and Township Development.
Espag Magwai Attorneys has also assisted private developers with the establishment of almost 40 townships.
They were also involved in all other aspects of conveyancing, inclusive of partial deregistrations and closures of townships and re-registrations and re-layouts; negotiation of servitudes and the drafting and registration thereof; negotiation, drafting and implementation of contracts of a varied nature; preparing opinions regarding the authority, rights and duties and obligations of Local Authorities; and acquisition, interpretation and exercise of rights to minerals.
It was also involved in the community aspects of decision making and the drafting of Social Compact and other agreements as part of the process to upgrade townships and to upgrade services and security of tenure of title.
As a result with its expertise, the firm is currently contracted to various tribes to assist them to attract developers and to convince the Provincial Government and to negotiate with the Provincial Government to develop and redevelop and upgrade townships and facilities within their boundaries.
This firm has from its inception realised the importance of its human resources and has over its time of practice, invested in all aspects of its personnel complement. This has resulted in highly responsible, honest and reliable personnel, with an extremely low personnel turnover.
At least 90% of this firm’s employees have service records with the firm, ranging from 10 to 20 years.
They also specialise in conveyancing, all notary work, general estate planning including the establishment of trusts and drawing of wills, civil litigation in both Magistrate’s and Supreme Courts, commercial litigation, administration of trusts and estates, mineral and mining law, and business related issues like insolvencies, foreclosure and debt recoveries.
