Polokwane water shortage: measures put in place to provide relief

The municipality has put in place temporary measures to deal with the water shortage experienced by some residents in the city, Mankweng and Seshego.

POLOKWANE – The municipality has put in place temporary measures to deal with the water shortage experienced by some residents in the city, Mankweng and Seshego.

Polokwane has since Thursday been experiencing water shortage as a result of rapid decline of water in reservoirs. This has been linked to the current heat wave that is affecting certain parts of the country says the Polokwane Municipality in a statement.

The following measures have been put in place:

• Two water purification plants next to the areas that are affected have been opened to the public for the collection of water

The plants are located in Seshego zone 4 next to the dam and the other in Dalmada plant opposite PEPP School along the R71 road. Access to these plants is from 06:00 to 22:00.

• Water tankers have been arranged to provide temporary supply to affected areas with each area having a dedicated tanker. The tankers will move around affected areas from 06:00 to 08:00 and later from 16:00 to 22:00.

• The municipality is also supplying a dedicated tanker to supply affected schools.

• Reduction of flow to areas in the low catchment will be implemented in order to allow the reservoirs to pick up levels required for regular supply.

• The municipality will also enforce current water restrictions by issuing on-spot fines to anyone who is found watering a garden and washing cars.
