No catch up centre for 500 gr. 12 learners

Gr. 12 learners from 13 schools around Zebediela will miss the catch up programme as the school chosen as a centre to implement the programme was recently burnt and damaged

LIMPOPO – More than 500 gr. 12 learners from 13 schools around Zebediela will miss the catch up programme as the school chosen as a centre to implement the programme was recently burnt and damaged during service delivery unrest in the area.

A block at Mokgohlwe Makopo High School was set alight and the property was damaged during the protests.

DA Limpopo leader, Jacques Smalle, said the party has written a letter to the MEC for education, Ishmael Kgetjepe to urgently table a rural safety plan to assist affected learners on their missed classes due to the community unrest.

“We are deeply concerned that the programme has now been delayed by this incident and many learners are desperate for this kind of intervention with the final exams looming.

“Where the DA governs, service delivery records and governance outcomes show commitment to spending public money for the people. We believe government must be more responsive to the needs of the people, and must spend money on people’s improvement,” said Smalle.

He said the DA urged Kgetjepe to provide mobile classrooms as an interim relief to enable the catch programme to commence without any further hiccups.
