EFF wins Univen SRC elections

EFF has won the University of Venda (Univen)’s Students Representative Council (SRC) elections by 1398 votes, while Sasco collected 1196 votes

LIMPOPO – The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) emerged victorious at the University of Venda (Univen)’s Students Representative Council (SRC) elections last week.

EFF won with 1 398 votes, while the South African Students Congress (Sasco) had 1 196 votes.

Heading Sasco’s campaign was sports minister, Fikile Mbalula, while EFF national spokesperson, Mbuyiseni Ndlozi and EFF Limpopo leader, Mike Mathebe led EFF’s campaign.

Mathebe said Univen’s students had spoken through the ballots.

“Mbalula was running-out of ideas and was addressing empty chairs. This was the second time that the EFF participated in the SRC elections at the University of Venda. When we participated in the last SRC elections, we didn’t make it, but now we hit them hard,” said Mathebe.

He said the EFF was in preparation for the local government election and that “their campaign machinery was well-oiled”.

“It is obvious that the ANC will lose the ground in 2019. I just imagine them relinquishing power to the EFF,” said Mathebe.

Ndlozi said Univen was neglected.

“The library is outdated and student residences are not up to standard and need to be refurbished,” he said.

By the time of going to press, no official comment from Sasco was released.
