LIMPOPO – The University of Limpopo’s SRC elections were postponed on Thursday due to disruptions at the voting stations.

The management of the University met with the representatives of contesting student organisations today (Friday), and resolved that the voting will resume on Monday, 12 October at 09:00 for those students who could not cast their votes. Ballots already cast will be secured under the watchful eye of the party agents and the External Electoral Scrutineers (EES). Security at the polling station has been beefed up with immediate effect until the entire process is concluded.

On behalf of the University of Limpopo Executive Management Committee, the Vice-Chancellor and Principal Prof Mahlo Mokgalong said they strongly condemn acts of violence and intimidation witnessed on the evening of Thursday during the voting process. “Parallel to this, management will conduct an investigation into the circumstances that led to the disruption of the SRC elections. We call upon all students to demonstrate and exercise electoral maturity throughout this process,” said Mokgalong.
