Reservoir levels critically low – muni

"Water reservoir levels remains alarmingly low and residents are urged to use this valuable resource sparingly to avert water shortage."

POLOKWANE – “Water reservoir levels remains alarmingly low and residents are urged to use this valuable resource sparingly to avert water shortage.”

According to a municipal spokesperson, Tidimalo Chuene, “the levels started to decline rapidly this week due to high usage that is linked to the current heat wave. This decline continues despite water being pumped into the reservoir.”

“By yesterday afternoon the pressure was too low and certain high laying areas like Bendor, Ster Park, Serala View and Flora Park reported very low pressure and shortages.”

The municipality is working with Lepelle Northern Water to deal with the situation.

However resident and members of the public are encouraged to contribute to the process by limiting usage to immediate household needs and avoid irrigation of gardens, filling swimming pools and washing cars.

The municipality will provide temporary relief through water tankers to areas that could be affected.

By this morning the reservoir levels were reading as follows:

  • 50ML=9%
  • New 30ML=4%
  • Old 30ML=3%
  • Potgieter=37%
  • 34=95%
  • Seshego=12%

Residents who may experience challenges with water supply are advised to report to the municipality on 0152902376/2001/2002 for assistance.
