Secret grave said to be that of missing pensioner

The Denga family might finally have closure and be able to bury their loved one, Joseph (88), who went missing on 2 January 2013

LIMPOPO – The Denga family might finally have closure and be able to bury their loved one, Joseph (88), who went missing on 2 January 2013.

This after a man claimed that Denga was murdered and secretly buried at the foot of the Zoutpanberg mountains in Phadzima-Dzumbathoho near Louis Trichardt.

Denga was last seen on the morning of 2 January 2013 on his way to catch a taxi to Louis Trichardt to draw his old-age pension, but he never returned home and a missing person case was opened with the Siloam police.

Spokesperson for the Denga family, Joyce Mabetoa, said a bulldozer had already overturned a large portion of ground, but nothing has been found as yet.

“What is unfolding now is a clear indication that Denga was ritually murdered. The police should interrogate the man who came to our family on Sunday and told us he knows where Denga was secretly buried. He must also disclose the names of the perpetrators. If he was lying, he should be taken for mental observation,” she said.

Mabetoa said Denga’s wife died from a heart-related illness in February 2013, while his daughter died earlier this year.

“His daughter could never accept her father’s disappearance and continued to search until she died.”

Siloam police spokesperson, WO Edward Tharaga, said the police were present when the bulldozer started work in the area and the situation was under control.

“The remains have not been found yet and the place is full of rocks. There is no case so far, but we still have to consult with police detectives to decide on the way forward in this matter,” Tharaga said.
