Six suspects escaped from the Mecklenburg police station, while six escaped from the Tubatse police cells over the weekend

LIMPOPO – Six suspects escaped from the Mecklenburg police station, while six escaped from the Tubatse police cells over the weekend.

Provincial police spokesperson, Col Ronel Otto, said the suspects escaped from both stations by sawing through the mesh wires of the roofs of the exercise rooms.

She said the suspects were arrested and detained for crimes ranging from rape, robbery, housebreaking, theft and public violence.

The suspects who escaped from Mecklenburg are Ordira Pilusa, Bernard Malapane, Khutso Shai, Karabo Mohlala, Thabo Mogabane and Thabo Maphanga.

Those who escaped from Tubatse are Ernest Magabe, Monti Shai, Edward Yokoy, Tshepo Serwale, Ishmael Masehle and Koketso Nkoana.

Otto added that the acting provincial police commissioner, Maj Genl Lesiba Mashilo has launched an intensive internal investigation into the incidents.

“Genl Mashilo stressed that if members were found to have been either involved or not following the standard procedures that have to be followed with the detention of suspects, harsh disciplinary steps will be taken,” said Otto.

Anybody with information on the whereabouts of the suspects are requested to contact their nearest police station.
