LIMPOPO – The Mathari Sanitary Pads Project donated washable sanitary pads and cosmetic packages to 30 needy girls from Kanana Primary School and Sekete Secondary School in Kanana, Moletjie last Wednesday.

The sanitary pads project is supported by the Department of Health. Choene Nkoana, chairperson of the project, explained that the project is aimed at restoring the dignity of needy girls who face challenges during their menstruation periods.

“The project aims to promote hygiene for schoolgoing girls who are based in both rural and urban schools. We hope giving them sanitary pads will play a huge role towards their health and general well-being.We understand that the washable pads are sustainable and this can also assist greatly to make them feel good at all times,” Nkoana said.

“We present hygiene workshops to the learners in partnership with the Department of Health. As this is our first donation to needy girls, we are looking forward to change the lives of many more less fortunate girls.

“The project looks for sponsors to help with acquiring more sanitary pads in order to expand the donations in the province,” she said.

Mmahlona Phosa, Mother, Child, Youth and Adolescent Manager in the Capricorn District, told the learners not to quit or give up at school as their future is in their own hands.

“We urge our teachers and parents to work together to inform and teach young girls what to expect during their menstruation cycle, especially since some are not aware this is natural and normal for every woman,” Phosa emphasised.
