LIMPOPO -“Police officers are always to be combat ready and wear their bulletproof vests when on duty.”

Groblersdal police cluster commander, Brig Daniel Moenyane spoke last Wednesday during the Groblersdal police cluster’s farewell for two of its longest serving members, Lt Moses Marishane (60) and Lt Frans Malapela (58), who have retired.

Marishane has 35 years of service and served in the visible policing section towards the end of his career while Malapela was a law enforcer for 32 years and served in the detective unit.

In his speech, Moenyane said there is a serious need for an anti-corruption stance by police officers and cited the dedication shown by both retirees to fight police killings as an example for all.

“Young police officers must learn from these two officers’ clean records. They need to be able to combat corruption and look after one another in the fight against police killings we are experiencing today.”

Groblersdal police station commander, Col Dorcas Letsoalo described Marishane and Malapela as hard-working officers who respected and loved everyone around them. Letsoalo said the two were always ready and willing to provide service when called on.

Both retired officers advised young police officers to work in unity, and to respect and love one another to best serve the communities. “We are also not going to sleep. We are going to work together with our communities to strengthen community policing forum programmes. If help is needed we will be willing to provide it,” Malapela added.
