LIMPOPO – Malehu Anna Letsie  of Makgakgapatse village in the Greater Letaba Municipality has been given a new lease on life in the form of a brand new home.

The 54-year-old woman who previously shared a dilapidated one-roomed shack with her four children and four grandchildren, face lit up with jubilation when the municipality under the tutelage of Mayor Godfrey Modjadji, recently handed her the new dwelling.

Their living circumstances changed when a “Good Samaritan sent by the Heavens” helped to put a roof over her family’s head. The angel behind this project is the managing director for Sasamela Trading Enterprise and Projects.

“I was sleeping in this house for more than 10 years with my children and grandchildren. During torrential rains in summer some of us had to plead for refuge from goodhearted neighbours who would always welcome us with open arms. At times, squashing in this room was also dangerous as snakes slid into our blankets and sometimes even hid under cooking utensils. Had it not been for the mercy from God, some of us could have been dead by now,” added Letsie whose grin was still from ear to ear. “I would like to thank the greater Letaba Municipality for putting a roof over my head and the Sasamela Trading Enterprise Company for giving me hope in life.”

Speaking to CV, the owner of Sasamela Trading Enterprise, Ronald Sasamela, said the house of R120 000 consists of two bedrooms, a dining room, a kitchen and a bathroom fitted with toilets. “We cannot change where we come from, but we can choose where we are going. It is the tradition of my company to plough back into the community and change lives,” Sasamela said.

Modjadji said the assistance Letsie received showed beyond any doubt that his municipality cares and was capable of changing trash into treasure.

“We always try to change the lives of the poor such as that of Letsie for the better,” he concluded.
