UAAC Archbishop speaks out against social ills

Archbishop Elias Mureri of United African Apostolic Church's (UAAC) speaks out on the social ills currently plaguing communities

LIMPOPO – Speaking during the closing of the United African Apostolic Church’s (UAAC) two-day conference in Makungwi near Thohoyandou on Sunday, Archbishop Elias Mureri spoke out on the social ills currently plaguing communities.

Among these issues were false prophets who instructed people to eat snakes.

He said he was astounded to see a pastor from a Gauteng church instruct congregants to eat snakes and grass, and drink petrol.

“The book of Revelations prophesises that when the end times are near, false prophets will emerge to confuse the people and make them stray. God-fearing people should stand up and deny wrong teaching from cruel prophets who are denting the image of churches and the entire country. I have never come across the scripture that instructs people to eat snakes,” he said.

Other issues he touched on were ritual killings and domestic violence.

“We were shocked by a man who cut his four children’s throats in a domestic violence incident in the Zebediela area. We need men and women who seek help from social workers or pastors when they are faced with problems,” he said.

Mureri said the church condemned the attack and killing of police officers, which seemed to be a trend.

“It is heartbreaking to hear that 60 police officers were killed this year alone. Just image the country without police,” Mureri exhorted.

He further said the UAAC was worried about infighting in parliament.

“We want to see bodies that regulate parliamentary debates strengthened. Protesters must stop using school children, burning schools and closing them as weapon to get attention from government. Burning of schools disturbs the culture of learning and children fail in large number at the end of the year. A lot of learners failed to qualify for a bursary because of poor results caused by the ongoing strikes.

Mureri concluded by saying the church supported education and such, offered bursaries to its members who passed with flying colours.
