‘Free’ beer scooped up at accident scene

An accident on the corner of Vermikuliet and Witklip Streets in Ladanna last Friday attracted 'beer loving' bystanders by the multitudes.

POLOKWANE – An accident on the corner of Vermikuliet and Witklip Streets in Ladanna last Friday attracted ‘beer loving’ bystanders by the multitudes.

A truck from South African Breweries (SAB) lost almost a quarter of its load when the side cover came loose.

Instead of helping the SAB employees clear up the mess, bystanders rather filled empty bottles with the beer.

One of the employees of SAB said there was no way to stop the beer “stealers” as they were not enough personnel on the spot to stop the growing crowd who grabbed what they could.

Review spoke to one of the men who helped himself to the find. He said if the beer is lying in public space it can be taken by the public.

He added he would have to drink the beer fast as all the “gas was quickly going out and my workplace would just have to understand”.

The SAB could not be reached for comment.
