Arrested suspect leads officers to stolen goods

MOKOPANE -A routine foot patrol through the streets of Mokopane resulted in the arrest of two suspects and the retrieval of stolen belongings.

The reaction-officers of Special Operations Solutions (SOS) in cooperation with Mokopane police officials came together last Wednesday at midnight to perform a routine foot patrol in an attempt to rid the town of criminals.

“We came across three possible nyaope suspects sleeping behind Mokopane Supermarket, one of the suspects pulled a knife on me and I managed to confiscate the knife from him.

“The suspect struggled himself loose and ran away. Another suspect was arrested for the possession of dagga,” Martin van Eck, reaction-officer manager of SOS, reported.

Van Eck stated: “The fact the suspect who pulled a knife on me got away bothered me, so the team and myself got up at 04:30 again and took to the streets in the hope to catch him and we did.

Lucky Baloyi (19) was arrested in the early hours of Thursday morning and he agreed to cooperate and show us where he has hidden stolen items.

We escorted him to a bush behind the Mokopane Supermarket where we found stolen goods belonging Carl Boshoff.

“Boshoff opened a case of theft at the Mokopane police station after they broke into his car last Wednesday,” reported Van Eck.

“Baloyi was arrested for theft and appeared before the Mokopane Magistrate’s Court last Friday, the case was postponed to 22 September and he remains in custody,” Const Irene Masingi, spokesperson for the Mokopane police station, said.

“It is our mission to ensure the safety of the community by taking criminals off the street. Our team consisting of Jaun Cook, Quintin Pretorius, Tommy Mortassagne, reaction-officers, did great work last Wednesday along with the help from the Mokopane police,” van Eck told Bosveld.
