LIMPOPO – Itumeleng Chidi-Kganakga is not only a lecturer at the University of Limpopo, she also has other talents.

Kasi Magazine

The magazine supports and promotes local communities through documenting all activities that take place in and around them. “The first issue was a hit and over 800 copies were sold within a month. The team is currently busy with the second issue that will serve for September/October. I found inspiration from companies like the Northern Media Group and aspire to see Kasi Magazine grow.

She is also a motivational speaker, mentor and the director of Itumeleng M. Productions that specialises in media and communications matters such as photography, events, voice overs, graphic designing and printing.

Itumeleng (28) holds a BA degree in communications and sociology, an Honours degree in sociology and is currently studying towards her masters degree in sociology.

“I am a full time lecturer in the sociology and anthropology department, but I’ve always loved media and communications. I am a student developer,” says Itumeleng.

I come from a family of six where I had to work very hard in order to be successful since my mom had to fend for my other five siblings. My dad passed away when I was doing my final year at tertiary due to a stroke. My goal is to promote and support women, youth and local communities through education and sharing of success stories through the magazine. I always believe we have the power to tell the unheard stories and no one can tell the story better than the person experiencing it.”

Her advice to young people who are considering a career in the media is to work hard. “First find your purpose in life, develop a passion for what you do and work very hard to achieve it. Nothing is impossible. If u can imagine it, you can have it. Most importantly, take education seriously for I believe it is one of the most important keys that can open doors for everyone.”
