Literary Fair focuses on tourism, heritage

Polokwane Municipality this year combines its fourth Literary Fair with National Book Week and Heritage and Tourism Months and offers interesting activities such as puppet shows, reading competitions, a cycling tour and tourism and heritage exhibitions.
The Literary Fair kicked off with a media briefing at the new Peter Mokaba Stadium by Eddy Maleka, acting Executive Mayor, last Wednesday, followed by the Executive Mayor’s Breakfast at Saskia Restaurant yesterday (Wednesday). The breakfast will be followed by the National Book Week bus tour that will take guests to Megoring Primary School at Mentz Village and to Molepo Community Library at Ga-Molepo. The day will end with a reception dinner at Meropa Casino and Entertainment World.
A visit to the University of Limpopo is scheduled for today (Thursday) and the programme will include a cycling tour of key tourism landmarks in Mankweng and on campus, a Writing Master Class, poetry performances and book launches as well as tourism and heritage exhibitions. A Tourism Symposium on the benefits of partnering with government will be hosted simultaneously at the new Peter Mokaba Stadium. To compliment the day, the Writers in Conversation event will take place in the Jack Botes Hall from 19:30.
On Friday (tomorrow) the Polokwane Correctional Facility will be visited by a group that includes artists and the inmates will have an opportunity to share their stories and receive books, connecting them with the outside world. The remainder of the day will be taken up by a children’s program at the City Library, a youth parliament at the new Council Chamber and Polokwane Burning, a presentation of top class poetry, at the Library Auditorium.
The programme will end on Sunday with a visit to the Dikgale Youth Centre and a visit to Protea Hotel Ranch Resort that will include horse riding, a game drive and walk with the lions.
The grand finale will be the Black Carpet Roll-out at Meropa Casino and Entertainment World that will feature live performances, cake cutting and DJs.
