Slashed sons: helping hand for bereaved family

Help is pouring in for the family of the boys who were attacked by their father

POLOKWANE – The MEC for transport, safety and liaison, Mapula Mokaba-Phukwana and the MEC for social development, Joyce Mashamba have arranged for psychologists to offer counselling to the family of the four boys who were killed by their father in Magatle village in Zebediela on Friday.

The boys, aged between four and 13, were attacked by their father, who slit their throats. He then attempted to take his own life, and is still in hospital.

Spokesperson for transport, safety and liaison, Kagiso Mootane, said Mokaba-Phukwana was also arranging for donations of coffins to bury the children.

“A businesswoman has donated a cow, and the rest of the donations will be disclosed on Thursday,” said Mootane.

Col Ronnel Otto, provincial police spokesperson, said the boys’ father would face four counts of murder.

“It is alleged the man was not on good terms with his wife, the boys’ mother. We are still investigating the exact cause of the horror,” said Otto.
