LIMPOPO – Riots escalated at Vuwani and the surrounding areas on Wednesday evening after the angry mob received the information that the Cooperative Governance Minister Pravin Gordhan will address the Pro-Makhado Demarcation Task Team in Louis Trichardt, not Vuwani as it was expected.

Protesters clashed with the Public Order Police, atmosphere was tense… with protestors throwing petrol bombs, stones and empty bottles at the police.

Crowds attempted to break through police barricades and police responded by firing rubber bullets. No injuries were reported.

According to provincial police spokesperson, Col Ronel Otto,”On Wednesday three shops in different villages were broken into and goods stolen.”

ON Wednesday she said “Since last night up till now twelve spaza shops have been broken into and looted.

“Mashau Village is quiet but road between Elim and Vuwani still blocked.”

A total of 14 people have been arrested for the looting in the area concludes Otto.
