As millions of Zion Christian Church (ZCC) members are expected to flock to Limpopo for their September pilgrimage, Police and the Department of Transport, Safety, Security and Liaison have warned criminals and especially motorists to avoid being on the wrong side of the law.
Law enforcement officers will be deployed across the province on major routes to and from Moria, just outside Mankweng as of tomorrow (Friday) until Monday morning.
“We have deployed more than 1 230 traffic officials who will mainly focus on routes towards Polokwane from Musina and Gauteng. They will be deployed on the N1 South and N1 North, R37 Lebowakgomo road, R81 Modjadjiskloof road and R71 Tzaneen road,” departmental Spokesperson on traffic, Kagiso Mootane said. She warned that officers will show no tolerance towards motorists disobeying the rules of the road. “We will also focus on transport permits, overloading, driving under the influence of alcohol and speeding,” she said.
Provincial Police Spokesperson Ronel Otto was also of the opinion that criminals should not try their luck over the weekend. “Criminals should not think that officials will be deployed on the roads and neglect other areas. We will maintain a high level visibility on the roads as well as the city to ensure a safe and peaceful weekend,” Otto said.
