Crack down on illegal firearms in Limpopo results in 17 arrests

A total of 17 suspects have been arrested and 10 illegal firearms recovered in Operation Ceasefire

LIMPOPO -A total of 17 suspects have been arrested and 10 illegal firearms recovered in Operation Ceasefire in the past few day reports Limpopo police on Thursday.

Operation Ceasefire is intelligence driven police operation aimed at the recovery of illegal firearms explains provincial police spokesperson, Col Ronel Otto.

Arrests include:

• Five suspects were arrested in the Hoedspruit area – suspects were allegedly on their way to commit rhino poaching were arrested… an illegal hunting rifle recovered.

Five suspects  arrested in Moletjie – suspects were allegedly on their way to commit armed robbery at a local supermarket… fire arms and jamming devices were found in their possession.

Two suspects were arrested and fire arms recovered in Thohoyandou – these suspects are linked to 14 cases of house robbery in the area.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Limpopo congratulated the teams on their good work and said that criminals in the province should take note that the net around them is tightening. “We will make use of all the resources available to us to make sure that criminals are tracked down in their hiding places and arrested to be placed behind bars” he said

 He further appealed to members of the community to come forward with information about illegal fire arms in their areas so that it can be removed from the society and make their communities a safer place to live in.
