Community leader warns that the mine protest is not yet over

The employees of the Mogalakwena Platinum mine are back at work on Wednesday and the situation seems calm although roads are still blocked

LIMPOPO – The employees of the Mogalakwena Platinum mine are back at work on Wednesday although roads are still blocked reports provincial police spokesperson, Col Ronel Otto.

Entrances to the mine were blocked with burning tyres, trees and rocks since early Monday morning and according to the community leader, Phakane Mabe, they are not done yet.

“The number of residents protesting are growing every day and we will not stop until our demands are met,” Mabe said on Wednesday.

On Tuesday Mabe told Bosveld that they will not stop fighting until their demands are adhered.

Police and traffic officials as well as security companies have since then been working non-stop to try and restore the peace.
