POLOKWANE – Taxila Secondary School’s Teenage Club held a Career Day for gr. 9 girls at the school on Thursday.

The theme was Empowering Women to Have a Better Tomorrow and the aim of the day was to ensure that the learners are well equipped to make the best subject choices for their future careers.

Career Day speakers:

Thobela FM station manager, Mosh Matsena

“As women we are able and we can achieve anything in life. A lot of people who made it, had to overcome obstacles to reach their goals. Success does not mean buying expensive things, but accomplishing things you were dreaming of. Money is not everything, it is only an enabler. True happiness is when you sit and look at what you have achieved through your hard work,” Matsena said.

She also advised the learners to select their friends wisely as the wrong friends will cause their downfall.

“Differentiate between what is good and bad. This is important because wrong decisions will cost you your success. Stay in school, work hard and do not stop after gr. 12 – continue your studies and never give up on your dreams. Reading is also very important because it increases your knowledge and vocabulary. So read, be focused and create your own path and this will lead to your success,” Matsena said.

Deputy editor at Energy FM, Meta Mphahlele

Mphahlele agreed with Matsena that it is important to never give up on your dreams and that education is important.

“Without education you cannot achieve a lot in life. You can be anything in life if you are educated.

“You must have a dream, belief in yourself and work hard in achieving your dream. Access yourself, and find who you are and what you want to achieve. Do not live in the shadow of what your friends and family want, you will not be happy,” Mphahlele said.

She added that success does not come easy and that the learners must prepare themselves to work hard, be disciplined and committed.

“Nothing in life comes easy, nor does success come on a silver platter. It takes a lot of hard work and overcoming obstacles, but nothing is impossible to achieve.,” Mphahlele said.

Mothekdi Phasha and Thato Matita – school learners part of Techno Programme

Mothekdi Phasha and Thato Matita motivated learners to get involved in internship programmes at companies so that they can have a practical idea of career choices.

“Never give up when you fail to do something because fail means First Attempt in Learning. End is not the end in fact end means Effort Never Dies.

“If you get no for an answer, remember no means Next Opportunity, so all you have to do is keep your head up high and rise above every obstacle you come across in live.

“Get your facts straight and know what you want for the future as tomorrow starts today,” Phasha said.
