Thembi Nkadimeng, Polokwane Executive Mayor will have to provide strong and decisive political leadership to ensure that the ship remains afloat as the affairs of the municipality are now in the hands of four acting Senior Managers, one of which is the acting Municipal Manager.
During a staff meeting last Wednesday, Nkadimeng announced that Faith Maboya, current Director for Strategic Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation was appointed as acting Municipal Manager in the place of Ndavhe Ramakuela, who acted in that capacity on a rotational basis since the departure of former incumbent Connie Mametja. Joel Makgatha, the current Deputy Chief Financial Officer is now the acting Chief Financial Officer and Nditsheni Sikhauli, the current Director for Engineering Services, will act as Transport Services Director. Victor Nenghovhela, the current Manager for Integrated Development Planning has been appointed as Corporate and Shared Services Director.
The positions of the suspended Senior Managers can not be filled until conclusion of the disciplinary processes to follow.
The position of Municipal Manager has now been advertised with a salary package of R1,9 million (maximum) per annum. It compares handsomely with the salary of Supreme Court Judges of Appeal, who earn R2,08 million per annum. The position of Municipal Manager is only available on a two-year contract, which raises the question whether the best qualified candidates will apply.
