ALERT: Water shortage in city

Water shortages have been reported in the high lying areas of the city. Affected areas and water tanker stations listed here.

POLOKWANE – Water shortages have been reported in some parts of the city announced  municipal spokesperson,  Tidimalo Chuene in a media release on Sunday.

“Water reservoir levels in the city are currently low following an announcement by Lepelle Northern Water (LNW): Olifantspoort Plant has been out of operation due to power supply challenges.”

“Sunday morning some reservoirs dried up which worsened the situation. This has contributed to water shortages in high laying areas within the city,” explained Chuene.

Areas which have been affected:

Flora Park, Serala View, Thornhill, some parts of Ster Park, Bendor, and surrounding areas.

Water tankers will be moving around the affected areas from 06:00 to 21:00 to provide temporary relief (see stations below). Severe water shortages in areas not already mentioned should be reported to the municipality at (015) 290 2376/2001

Residents, businesses and visitors are urged to use water sparingly, whilst repairs are continuing at the treatment plant. Water consumption should be limited to immediate household needs and avoid irrigation of gardens, filling swimming pools and washing cars.

The municipality will continue to take a strong stance against those who continue to waste water because they can afford the surcharges by instituting on the spot fines and closing off supply to those who will be found watering their gardens.
