Good Hope Primary School says goodbye to two teachers

Teachers and learners at the Good Hope Primary School in Westernburg recently said goodbye to two popular teachers, Phina Mokgehle and Freddy Snyders.

POLOKWANE – Teachers and learners at the Good Hope Primary School in Westernburg recently said goodbye to two popular teachers, Phina Mokgehle and Freddy Snyders.

Mokgehle was teaching maths in gr. 6 and also served as the National School Nutrition Programme (NSNP) coordinator while Snyders taught in Afrikaans and economics and management sciences in the Afrikaans classes in grades 6 and 7.

Snyders started teaching at the school when he was only 24-years-old but had to resign due to ill-health.

Mokgehle joined the school in 2006 and called it a day when she reached retirement age.

At the farewell function the principal, Cindy Buys, said the school will never be the same without these two teachers.

“Luckily teaching is a lifelong skill and Mokgehle and Snyders can continue to teach young people in their communities.”

She praised Snyders who was an asset and energetic employee at the school. “I used to call him a mosquito because he is very small,” Buys recalled fondly.

She added that the school all learned from Mokgehle and will miss her. “She played a mentor role and always assisted her colleagues with the knowledge and skills they needed to tackle tougher issues.”

Buys said the two teachers were a joy to work with, also because they both have charisma. “The school would like to wish you the best of luck with your future endeavours. Go out there and become useful citizens and continue taking care of yourselves both mentally and physically. We all wish you a blessed retirement,” concluded Buys.
