Limpopo EFF protest peaceful, says police

EFF are marching to Modipa Platinum Mine in Burgersfort to handover a memorandum of grievances

LIMPOPO – On Friday morning Limpopo police sent a warning to motorists to avoid the area on the R37 near Mecklenburg due to protests.

According to provincial police spokesperson, Col Ronel Otto, members of Economic Freedom fighters (EFF), more than 3 000 strong, were protesting on the R37.

The members of EFF are marching to Modipa Platinum Mine in Burgersfort to handover a memorandum of grievances.

Spokesperson for the Mecklenburg police station, Constable Elias Setati said the march was peaceful and traffic flow was not disrupted.

“There is no report of damage to property so far,” said Setati.

Police are deployed and monitoring the situation.
