Democratic Alliance (DA) Leader Mmusi Maimane touched down in Limpopo on the weekend, bringing his people a message centring on job creation and the need to address South Africa’s economic crisis.
“Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa stands up in Parliament and says the party that cares about jobs is Jacob Zuma’s party. It’s far from the truth, because if they did care about it unemployment would be going down, but instead it’s soaring. And we’re the only ones who have a plan to achieve that,” he told Polokwane Observer after addressing a crowd of supporters at Ga-Rena Rental Village in Ladanna.
Speaking to tenants who in a past incident of unrest aired their disgruntlement over ownership of the apartments they have been renting for years, he said until tenants became owners their work there was far from done. In his speech he referred to a copy of an evaluation report, dated June 2013, presenting the value of the respective properties which he still had to study.
Maimane continued addressing the issue of unemployment, quoting a figure of an estimated 40% in Limpopo and saying it was almost the highest in the country if including those having given up looking for work.
He stressed that the DA had to fight for people who did not have work. He told his audience that they should ensure that they started to turn things around towards a decrease in unemployment numbers.
On his second visit to the province since his election as national DA leader earlier this year, Maimane’s Vision 2029 Tour took him to Thabazimbi, Tshikota and Olifantshoek villages in the Louis Trichardt area and Lenyenye near Tzaneen the next day.
