ANC Limpopo suspends provincial speaker

Limpopo ANC has suspended the speaker of the Limpopo provincial legislature, Merriam Ramadwa, pending the outcome of her disciplinary hearing

LIMPOPO – ANC Limpopo has suspended the speaker of the Limpopo provincial legislature, Merriam Ramadwa,  pending the outcome of her disciplinary hearing, reported The Citizen on Monday.

“The ANC in Limpopo has taken a decision to temporarily suspend the membership of comrade Merriam Ramadwa as a member of the ANC pending the outcome of her disciplinary hearing,” the party’s provincial secretary, Knocks Seabi said while addressing a media briefing in Bela Bela.

Seabi said Ramadwa was served with a letter on Saturday informing her about the ANC’s provincial executive committee (PEC) decision to suspend her.

The suspension follows reports that Ramadwa refused to bow to pressure from the PEC to resign from her position.

Seabi said the move comes after the party and Ramadwa “could not find each other”.

Seabi said since the notice of suspension was served on Ramadwa on Saturday, it meant she ceased to represent the ANC as speaker.

“The reasons for her suspension and instituting disciplinary proceedings against comrade Ramadwa are detailed in her letter of suspension, which remains privileged between the ANC and her,” he said.
