Nine people died when a minibus taxi collided with a truck just outside of Mookgophong on Thursday morning

LIMPOPO – A minibus taxi collided with a stationary truck on the N1 just outside of Mookgophong in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The minibus taxi was south bound with 11 passengers when it collided with the truck.

“The truck was from Zambia and it got stuck on the N1. Part of it was in the emergency lane, while another part was in the slow lane,” said Col Ronel Otto, provincial police spokesperson.

Otto said the taxi collided with the truck from behind and both caught on fire. The driver of the taxi and eight passengers died on the scene, while two passengers sustained serious injuries.

The truck driver and his passenger were not injured and the driver was arrested for culpable homicide, said Otto.
