The Capricorn College for Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) hosted an artisan breakfast at Getaway Gateway last Thursday to foster relationships with stakeholders and to engage participation in its artisan development initiatives.
The function was attended by representatives from the business community, the National Skills Fund and technical institutions of learning.
Khulwane Riba, Deputy Principal, Academic Services of the College, said that it is the decade of the artisan and that the College does all its source funding from the Setas in order to embark on artisan development initiatives to benefit the youth.
“It is the vision of the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) to produce 30 000 artisans per year by 2030 and as the Capricorn College for Technical Vocational Education and Training, we owe it to the province and ourselves to make this dream come true. The initiatives can not succeed without real workplace training opportunities and in this regard we rely on the input and participation of the business sector through meaningful partnerships,” Riba said.
Riba announced that the College had, during 2014, placed a group of learners in a generic artisan preparation programme funded by the National Skills Fund. “The learners did very well and are now waiting to be accommodated in real working places,” Riba informed.
