Former DA councillor forms new political party to contest 2016 elections

Pastor Derick Mosoana, former DA councillor in the Fetakgomo Local Municipality, launched his new political party, Sekhukhune Congress, at the beginning of this month.

LIMPOPO – Pastor Derick Mosoana, former DA councillor in the Fetakgomo Local Municipality, launched his new political party, Sekhukhune Congress, at the beginning of this month.

Mosoana decided to leave the DA and made this public on his Facebook page at the beginning of July amid allegations of racism in the party. He said the new party is still yet to submit registration documents to the Independent Election Campaign (IEC), but already boasts the names of more than 5 000 people on its records who vowed to assist the party in taking Sekhukhune by storm.

This goal is seen as a rescue mission.

According to him, the party is going to contest the 2016 local government elections.

He believes that he pulled with him an exodus of 86% of the DA’s membership in Fetakgomo.

“Sekhukhune Congress is the new kid on the block and seeks to achieve at least 30% of the total votes in next year’s elections.

“The party might be new, but we already announced plans to launch a petition against the proposed amalgamation of the Tubatse and Fetakgomo municipalities.

“We will fight for the recognition of King Thulare Thulare and voice out against corruption,” he added.

“We might be seen as new, but we bring years of experience and expertise to the structure.

“We have been practicing politics for over a decade and it’s unfortunate that the people of our district had to suffer this much before we could come to their rescue,” said Mosoana.

Jacques Smalle, DA Limpopo leader, said the truth about Mosoana’s departure from the party is that the DA demoted him from councillor to be an ordinary member because he didn’t pay tithe and bridged the constitution of the party for the past two years.

“The issue he raised about racism in the party is just a fabrication,” stated Smalle.
