Heated fields at winter sports

Five schools from the province participated in the Pepps College Winter Sports Challenge at the school's sports fields and auditorium on Saturday morning

POLOKWANE – Five schools from the province participated in the Pepps College Winter Sports Challenge at the school’s sports fields and auditorium on Saturday morning. Learners competed in various sporting codes such as soccer, netball, hockey, chess and debate.

The Pepps College Winter Sports Challenge is an annual event hosted by Pepps School to encourage exercise and a healthy lifestyle. Pepps u/15 and first soccer teams were announced as the winners after making their competitors eat dust.

Pepps debating team also used the home ground to their advantage and claimed the first spot in the debating category. Mitchell House’s netball team proved to be on top of their game as they defeated the opponents to occupy the first position.

The masterminds took it to the table to compete in chess. It seems like the game was a bit tough as Mitchell House and Stanford Lake College had to share the first position. The two schools accumulated the same points and had to share the seat. Sharing might be a norm at Mitchell House as the school girls hockey team shared the first spot with Pepps College. The two teams gathered the same points during the tournament and had to share the position.

Leigh Melville, Pepps College principal, said the challenge was to close the sport season in style.

“This is the end of the season and we host this challenge every year in winter to close the chapter. We will be starting a new season for other sports such as swimming,” said Melville.

She further said players did their best in the challenge and wished everyone the best of luck with their future endeavours. Melville encouraged parents to support their children during such events. Schools that competed in the Pepps Winter Sports Challenge were Pepps, Mitchell House, King’s Court, Stanford Lake College and Southern Cross.
