LIMPOPO – ANYONE with information that could lead to the arrest of the mother who gave birth and dumped her newborn baby in a dustbin opposite the police headquarters in Sibasa at around 09:00 last Wednesday, has been requested to come forward.
Thohoyandou police spokesperson, Const Avhafarei Tshiovhe, said they had opened a case of concealment of birth and were still searching for the woman.
Tshiovhe said the baby boy was found dead, dumped in a dustbin that belonged to the Thulamela Municipality.
“Anyone with information should please come forward. We strongly condemn such incidents and we advise women to consult social workers, pastors or community leaders to get help should they be experiencing any personal problems,” Tshiovhe said.
According to a woman who wished to remain anonymous, and who is part of the Expanded Public Work Programme contracted by the municipality, she and other women were busy collecting the waste materials from the dustbin in Sibasa early last Wednesday morning when they discovered the newborn baby boy, who was already dead.
“We then alerted the police. We are still shocked and traumatised over the incident,” the woman said.
