POLOKWANE – CELEBRATING men, satisfying women, an event by F.L.Y Inc. (First Love Yourself) was held in Polokwane recently. According to event organiser, Sherin Phihlela, the objective behind the event is to honour men who make a difference in their communities as well as in their personal lives, men like the one who sponsored her very first business venture. According to Phihlela, her events company (F.L.Y Inc.) was started with the idea to get people together and share information as well as motivate each other. She hopes to create a platform where people can network and form friendships which will help them achieve their goals. “We need such events because I believe our society is not taught to go beyond their circumstances, we have become a dependent society. We do not realise our dreams and potential, we are taught to be mediocre in our thinking. People need to realise that we have great purpose that needs to be unlocked and shared,” says Phihlela.

One of the guest speakers at the event was Mofenyi Malepe, author of the book ‘283 : The Bad Sex Bet’. He spoke about fatherhood and manhood. Malepe stated that we need to first deal with our inner being before we can go out and conquer the world. “The boy child needs more programmes to equip and mentor them in order for them to become a better generation of men and a new breed of fathers. Boys should know that it is ok to be ‘uncool’ (to their peers) and to wait before they sleep with women, because every action has consequences,” Malepe says.

Khathu Mashau, founder and CEO of Nunnovation was another guest speaker. Mashau shared the story of his business journey whilst he emphasised perseverance and the importance of education. He also advised that people should be innovative and constantly come up with things to better their lives. Mashau warned attendees to be careful how they presented themselves and conducted themselves on social media as this would affect their brand and how seriously people would perceive them.
