Police stop robbers in their tracks

LIMPOPO – The Limpopo police arrested two groups of robbers over the weekend before they were able to execute their crimes.

In Zebediela, the police followed up on information about a group of three suspects on their way to commit armed robbery at a farm in the Immerpan area. Members who were out patrolling spotted the suspicious vehicle, stopped it and searched it. Three unlicensed firearms, two 9mm pistols and a revolver, as well as ammunition were recovered. The three suspects, all from Kagiso, appeared in the Mokopane magistrate’s court this morning and were remanded in custody until their next court appearance next week.

In Groblersdal, two suspects, who were already halfway through the roof of a clothing store intending to grind the safe, were also arrested.

Police were made aware of their antics and overpowered and arrested two of the suspects. They have also appeared in court and will remain in custody. During the arrest, the police confiscated a vehicle, a crow bar, grinder, bolt cutter and several smaller housebreaking equipment.

The police provincial commissioner, Lt Genl Fannie Masemola congratulated the police on their swift response and arrests, stating that he burst with pride on this achievement.

“The fact that we arrested these culprits before they could execute their crimes is proof that in Limpopo, we are ready to fight crime with everything that it takes and criminals from other areas of the country must never think that we will allow them to compromise the safety and security of our communities,” he said.

Investigations to link the suspects to other incidents of crime are ongoing.
